Shekinah Lane is a story—at times delightful and humorous and at other times sad and disturbing—that chronicles a life filled with joys and struggles. In it the author, Pat Strickland, addresses the theme of the power of dwelling “in the secret place (the Shekinah glory) of the most High God.” Her book has many strengths. The writing style is clear, direct, and conversational which allows her to make her religious observations without burdening the text with sermonizing. Humor is another source of strength throughout the book. Strickland is a serious person who does not take herself too seriously. The book grows increasingly dark as illness and other difficulties intrude. Her husband’s Parkinson’s disease, serious injuries, blackouts, as well as her tension with family members over religion, put a strain on the family, as do the hours she spends on her job as registrar for Young Harris College, but she presents these difficulties honestly and patiently. She ends with chapters on Shekinah Lane, the home that she and her husband built in the Georgia mountains, which becomes a convincing symbol of the glory of God on earth.

We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure.[a] This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.( 2 Corinthians 4:7 NLT)
In “Shekinah Lane,” author Pat Strickland shares her first-hand account of two ordinary people whose lives have been blessed by an Extraordinary God. For all who read her story, the treasure to be found is The God of Hope who wants His Shekinah Glory to shine on their lives also.

Walking with Pat Strickland through the pages of “Shekinah Lane” as she relates the amazing journey she and her husband have walked as they followed God’s leading is an adventure you won’t soon forget. Time and again they have seen the Shekinah Glory of God come shining through in some of their darkest and most troubled times—and in moments of joy and splendor. This is a story you will relate to as she shares her struggles, victories and defeats. I have been blessed to read it—and to be her neighbor down the road from “Shekinah Lane.”

What a joy to read Shekinah Lane! At times the reader will think “How could they…?” or ”Why did they…?” The answer? God led them every step of the way. God blessed the Stricklands with unity of commitment, goal, and purpose which allowed Him to use them to bless many lives. Shekinah Glory, indeed!
