No not the insurance commercial of price, price, and price. The three P’s to me are:
Peace, peace, and peace.
What is peace to you? Everybody is seeking peace – from the middle east war to the Ukraine/Russia war to family conflict, neighbors or political unrest. We all want peace. Freedom from disturbance, absence of anxiety, calm and tranquility.
The Greek word for peace is shalom. Many students or staff from Young Harris College will remember Rev. Whitley’s robust greeting in chapel, “Shalom” – to which he suggested the response – “Shalom Lekha.” Which means peace to you as well.
But peace comes with a price – in the political arena there is a need for compromise- in marital conflict – definitely compromise. Wars ultimately end with a compromise and the price of reconciliation.
The Peace of God is more than the absence of problems – health, discord, well-being – harmony. It is an inner peace from a relationship with God. If we have peace with God, we will be able to have peace with one another.
What is the cost of peace with God? Peace is the presence of God in our lives. You can’t have peace without the prince of peace – Jesus.
In choir practice last night, I realized the song we will sing Sunday “It Was Finished on the Cross” will be a testament to our savior’s complete work.
It also reminded me of one Good Friday service when local churches gathered, and the ministers were to each preach for five minutes on the last words of Christ. After several ministers greatly exceeded the five-minute assignment, it was my husband John’s turn to conclude the service. He stood in the pulpit, looked at his Bible, and said in an affirming voice, “It is finished” and sat down, much to the delight of the weary congregation.

This Easter Sunday marks one year that my husband John finished his course here on this earth. It was almost as abrupt as the less than five-minute sermon on that Good Friday. However, his audience of one was not delighted. But we will meet again.
To me, peace is the presence of Jesus who has been my constant companion, friend, and counselor this past year.
Romans 5:1-5 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[b] boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God,which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
