First Facebook Post

Do you remember your first Facebook post?

Michigan Trip

My granddaughter helped me set up my Facebook profile several years ago.  We took our granddaughter and grandson on a trip to Michigan to visit our son and his family.  Then we traveled to Marlette where we lived for ten years.  We stayed with a friend who is a master gardener.  Her yard was filled with beautiful flowers.  We took lots of photos with grands and then visited with our friends. Many photos were posted to Facebook.

Strawberry time

I remembered picking strawberries when we lived there.  Michigan strawberries are so large and sweet from that rich black soil.  Our oldest son helped me pick – we crawled on our knees to pick them, and our jeans were red with juice of berries.  He ate more than he picked!!!  Then home to process for freezing.

How about some strawberry shortcake?

We couldn’t find a pick-your-own place but purchased some berries and my friend cooked supper and served strawberry shortcake.  But she made fresh biscuits, buttered, strawberries on top and then ice cream.  Oh, my goodness, best short cake ever.  My granddaughter still serves it that way.

Study on Humility!!!!

Today participating in a Bible Study on Philippians, the topic was on humility  – “thinking less of ourselves – or thinking of ourselves less” as one young lady shared.  Reminded me of the addiction of scrolling on Facebook.  My scrolling started out with finding friends in different states who I had lost touch with over the years.  It was so exciting to see them and their children and grandchildren.  My friends’ list continued to grow as I found people.

Then I found myself posting something and then glancing……. back during the day to see how many likes or who had commented.  Boy it is easy to waste a lot of time scrolling.

One thanksgiving I decided to fast Facebook the month of November.  After a few weeks, I just glanced……Much to my dismay I found out a person I knew had died and I missed the service. So good reason to just scroll every now and then. Right?

What started out as a means to find friends whereabouts from the past, soon turned into a “what do they think of me – my post, my pictures?”

Do I still post?  You bet ya!  Gotta brag on those grandkids and now great grandson.

Some recent family photos!

But I am trying to celebrate others more often than desire feedback from my posts. Mostly I share devotionals that have inspired me.

Our key verse for today was:

Philippians 2:3  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit rather in humility value others above yourselves.

This is a good goal in life as well as in social media to value others above ourselves!

Do you find yourself mindlessly scrolling?

Have you got some tips for controlling your scrolling habits on Facebook or Instagram?

Do you set any restrictions on time you spend? only mornings? only evenings?
