Settled in Heaven

Psalm 119:89-90 (KJV)

Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.

She was finally asleep in my arms.  I wrestled her for 15 minutes.  Usually, I lay her down on the bed when she sleeps.  However, she only slept 15 minutes last time.  So, I decided to just sit in my office in my rocking chair and let her settle.  After 30 minutes, I thought “this is ridiculous what am I doing just sitting here, I could be getting something done”.  Glancing around my office I looked up and saw the collage of my family, my sons, grandkids and great grands.  Yes, I can get something done – pray for the family.

What better way to spend this time enjoying the peace on the face of my precious great granddaughter and to pray for all my family.  Many years ago, I was impressed to select a verse to pray for each of them.  Many times, I didn’t know how to pray  “was I praying my will or God’s will.”  So, I decided to pray God’s word over them. Can’t go wrong with his word.  It is settled in heaven. Praying every day helps to memorize verses as well.

I enjoyed praying for the whole family for another 30 minutes.  I began thanking the Lord for being able to rock my two sons when they were babies.  It was such a joy to stay at home and take care of them.  Then I was privileged to rock all three grandchildren – the two who lived near me and the one in Michigan.  What a blessing!

Two years ago, to be able to rock my great grandson was pure delight.  Now my great granddaughter sleeps in my arms.  Yesterday, second great granddaughter was born.  In a few months, another great grandson is due.  What a blessing! Need two more verses for the new greatgrands.

Grands and greatgrands

What a life you have given me Lord.  Blessings for this life and you have promised to bless my family for future generations.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

NIV  Psalm 119:89-90

Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures.

Yes, God’s word is settled in heaven as the KJV or as in the NIV above it is eternal and firm in the heavens. Praying God’s word gives power in your prayers. He knows what is best for each one of our family.

How do you select a verse for a particular person? When selecting for my sons, they were already adults so I selected according to their personalities and needs at the time. Recently for greatgrands, I selected verses that would be an encouagement to them when they are older. However, as their peronalities develop, the verses may change. Verses can change at any time of course according to their needs.

I encourage you to ask the Lord to impress you with a verse for each one in your family.  Write it down and pray that verse daily. If you have too many grands, maybe pray a verse for each family.
